Potential Complications

Side effects appear to be largely dose-dependent; the more vortioxetine taken, the greater the likelihood of side effects and at greater severity. Most, however, are fairly mild and transient. Patients concerned about side effects should speak with a doctor about adjusting dosage, or alternative medications.

One side effect than concerns a lot of individuals is sexual dysfunction, an issue associated with all antidepressants. In trials patients taking vortioxetine experienced sexual dysfunction more often than those taking placebo, but significantly less often than most other antidepressants. Those who do experience some form of sexual dysfunction may be able to alleviate it to some extent with other medications, like Viagra. Sexual side effects are nearly always reversible when treatment ends.

Those who buy vortioxetine should be aware that this medication can have serious interactions with other medications, notably MAO inhibitors and NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin. MAO inhibitors should not be taken two weeks before or three weeks after taking vortioxetine. NSAIDs taken during treatment increase risk of unusual bleeding. Other medications can have lesser effects; check with a doctor or pharmacist before mixing treatments.
